Dependency or Territory - What's the difference?

There are three Crown Dependencies, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man, they are NOT part of the United Kingdom but they are part of the British Isles. The Queen is Head of State but they have their own government where as the Overseas Territories do not have their own government and form part of the United Kingdom but are not part of the British Isles.

You will also find in this section information about the other offshore communities of the United Kingdom like the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, St Helena and Ascension Island, Tristan da Cunha, Pitcairn Island, Gibraltar, the islands in the Caribbean and the sovereign areas of Cyprus, the British Indian Ocean Territory and Antarctica.
